Lloyd Boardman AWARDED D.F.M. Melbourne reported Sunday last that twelve members of the Royal Australian Air Force serving abroad, three officers and nine sergeants, have been decorated for gallantry in action, and among them we are extremely pleased to note that clever Kempsey youth. Sergt. Lloyd Lindsay Boardman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Boardman, of West, awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. Sergeant Boardman, during recent fighter-bomber operations in the Western Desert led many sweeps over enemy concentrations. His courage, daring, and skill in pressing home accurate and devastating attacks, despite ground defences, have been an inspiration. Because of his skill he has been repeatedly detailed to lead formations of tactical reconnaissance aircraft, and the reports he has brought back have been of the highest importance. He has destroyed one enemy aircraft. Beltman in the Surf Life Saving Team and outstanding Kempsey footballer, Sergt. Boardman was a cadet civil engineer in the Macleay Shire Office when he enlisted in the RAAF in October, 1940. He was trained in Australia and Southern Rhodesia, and was posted to the Middle East.
